You will be asked to remove all your clothing from the waist down. (You can leave your socks on!).Underwear gets in the way, and I can't do a thorough job with clothing on. You can undress before I come in the room and drape yourself with a towel so you feel more comfortable when I enter and exit the room (hey you wanted details, right?). I have some regular clients who are comfortable undressing with me in the room and then we just get down to business, the hair removal. Whatever makes you comfortable is ok with me!
Limit caffeine for several hours prior to appointment. Clients who normally take extra strength Advil for pain may find this helpful 30 minutes prior to treatment. I specialize in man-grooming, from brows to toes. Many estheticians or salons refuse to work on men, and sometimes make them feel uncomfortable if they do take them for appointments. When you walk into my studio, you will find it more "clinical" in style. It is not a high-end day spa or salon. It is clean and functional. I've designed it to make everyone feel at home.
What hygenic measures do you take?
I AM A HYGIENIC MANIAC! SO - NO DOUBLE DIPPING!. Here is a little INFO about "no double dipping" policy:
Those infamous wooden spatulas are disposable for good reason. Once they're dipped into the wax and the wax is spread onto your skin, they should be tossed, and a new spatula should be used for each subsequent dip. Why? Wax is only heated to a temperature just above 40°, which isn't hot enough to kill bacteria or viruses, any hotter would scald you. Once the spatula touches skin, dipping it back into the wax can potentially pass bacteria along with it. Now I don't know about you, but I don't want to come in contact with anything that's touched a stranger's anything. We all assume the worst thing we could leave a salon with would be misshapen eyebrows, badly painted nails or an un-even bikini line. However, the health risks associated with the beauty industry include viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and warts, as well as, conjunctivitis, bacterial and fungal infections.
Why would a guy want a Brazilian wax??
"why does a woman have this service done?" Generally we do it to feel clean and smooth, or perhaps we do it to be sexier for our significant other. Maybe we just like the way it looks. Men are no different. Some athletes do it for competition (body builders need to be absolutely hair free). Cyclists do it because they perspire and can easily get ingrown hairs from shaving. Strippers...hm...You understand... So there are many different reasons men and women have this service done.
Does Brazilian waxing hurt?
Well, yes, a little, especially the first time. I have heard another aesthetician describe it similar to pulling a band aid off. It hurts for a second, but is quick and the pain leaves as fast as it comes. Again, if you trim the hair back to around 1/2 inch before coming in, it doesn't pull as much, and helps for that first visit. Most of my clients tell me the results far outweigh the pain encountered during the service. It also seems that on some people, after having the service done several times at 4 week intervals, it just doesn't hurt as much. Is the hair releasing easier, or are they just getting used to it? Who knows, but many have commented on this..
What if I get an erection during the waxing service?
Just so you know, it happens to about 5% of male clientele. This is usually an adrenal response from the waxing service that most people have absolutely no control over. Some men have this happen while at their doctor's office having a physical. It's really not a problem, as long as you treat me with respect and understand that I am professional aestheticians, just removing hair, and nothing more. I've never had a problem with a client making inappropriate remarks, and hope it stays that way. If a client were to make suggestive remarks, the waxing service would end, and full payment would be due whether the waxing was completed or not..
Laser hair removal is semi-permanent, while wax is temporary. If you meet a partner who loves your body hair, you can always grow it back, but not with a laser. Be wise.
